Best Large Cat Litter Box

While looking for a large cat litter box for Zakk, I came across a unique litter box setup. The main thing I liked was that it used a natural product as the “litter” component that a cat would be willing to accept as litter. I know there are many litter types out there, but cats can be picky about texture.

The setup used the Breeze XL litter box with pine pellets purchased as Tractor Supply store. The box and pan are sturdy and made of heavy duty plastic with a good size entryway for a cat. It is not covered with a lid and it provides a nice open area for your cat.

The box was a bit pricey but the pellets were super cheap. I figured the box was a one time investment, and I’d rather pay a bit more for a nice large cat litter box and then save on the reoccurring cost of litter. There is also the cost of pee pads, but I was able to find a bulk pack on Amazon that was inexpensive and will last me for quite awhile.

How to Set Up Large Cat Litter Box

The only thing you need is the box and the scoop. I threw away the package of unnatural pellets and the pee pads were too small for this set up. Using the small pee pads was just going to create a mess for me to clean up later.

The litter scoop has the perfect size slots to scoop poop and allow the excess pellets to fall through and back into the box.

I put a large pee in the bottom that covers beyond the grates so I can easily grab the corners and remove it. I double up on pee pads just in case I wait too long to change it or my cat is peeing alot causing urine to soak through the top pad. I would rather put 2 down to avoid extra time cleaning the box. When I remove the top pad, if the second pad is dry, I leave it and put a new one under it.

Effectiveness

The large cat litter box with pine pellets is the best litter box solution I have found for my cat. He likes the large size and has plenty of room to turn around in the box. The high walls keep pellets in the box for the most part but any that he kicks out can just be tossed back into the box. Using the pine pellets eliminates the smell of cat urine, creates no dust and no fine particles of litter tracked all over the floor.

Most importantly, it is a natural solution with no chemicals to be inhaled by me or my cat.

The box and the additional heavy duty scoop are one time investments I was happy to make for this setup. And the reoccuring expenses are pellets and pee pads ends up costing me less than buying the more traditional cat litters on the market. This large cat litter box setup is a game-changer for cat owners.

Frequently Asked Questions

How Often Do the Litter Pads Need to Be Replaced?

Changing the pads is going to vary by cat and how many cats are using the box. When you start to see the sawdust at the top of the grates, it is time to change the pad. With one cat, you should usually be able to get close to a week before needing to change the pee pad.

Are There Any Additional Accessories Needed for this Litter Box Setup?

You will need pee pads which are fairly inexpensive to purchase on Amazon.
It is recommended you get a heavy duty metal litter scooper for shifting the pellets around. A larger, stronger scooper will make this much easier and faster.
I also have a washing machine drain pain under my box which helps catch any pellets that get flung out, but it is not necessary.
